DrugHelp Care

A Website designed to quickly match substance users with needed treatment

DrugHelp.Care is a FREE website that allows substance abuse treatment provider agencies to easily register the number of available treatment slots they have on a daily basis. DrugHelp.Care is fully searchable so it can be used to find a treatment spot that matches an individual’s characteristics. It was originally designed for use by professionals in Northeast Ohio, but DrugHelp.Care developers are working on a user interface for friends and family members of those struggling with addiction and hope to expand it to include resources in other geographic areas.

DrugHelp.Care originated from a grassroots call for a user-friendly tool to make open treatment slots in our community publicly available on a daily basis. DrugHelp.Care was developed by affiliates of Cleveland State University’s Center for Behavioral Health Sciences and the Internet of Things (IOT) Collaborative. Team leaders Dr. Miyuki Tedor, associate professor of sociology and criminology and Dr. Patricia Stoddard Dare, professor of social work and coordinator of CSU’s Chemical Dependency Counseling Certificate program, met with over 100 community stakeholders over the course of a year to develop the specifications for DrugHelp.Care. The technical specifications were then designed by two CSU software development engineering graduate students under the mentorship of CSU Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Professor Dr. Wenbing Zhao. A team of engineering students continues to work to refine and improve DrugHelp.Care.

Thanks to funding from the CDC, a team of community outreach and enrollment specialists works to assist treatment providers with initial registration so their programs and services can be listed on DrugHelp.Care. Agencies can register the different types of services they provide such as assessment, outpatient treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, and sober living. The CSU team is currently working on the next phase of development, which will make the website user-friendly for non-professionals. The team is currently seeking community members to take part in a focus group to help inform the creation of the new user interface. Individuals interested in participating in the focus group, or substance abuse treatment agencies interested in registering their services or can contact drughelp.care@csuohio.edu
